Description Muga Silk is the product of the silkworm Antheraea Assamensis . Also called the “Gold Of Assam” this natural yellowish-golden silk is rare and available only in specific areas of North-East India. Muga Silk was woven and reserved for the Royal families in earlier days.A pure muga clothing has some very distinct and unique features about them like the enhancement of the sheen after every wash, protecting from UV Rays and outliving its user as it can last about 150-200 years .Traditionally Muga products were handed over to the next generation as heirloom. Muga also has its Geographical Indication (GI) from Assam Interesting History: Muga finds its reference in ancient texts also. The Kautilya’s Arthashastra, which was a political literature mentions about the highly sophisticated silk clothing from Assam and the production of Suvarnakudyaka which can be confirmed as Muga as the word “Suvarn” clearly means Gold
